LAS25 Transformations in Architecture

Transformation in the contemporary architectural discourse does not only encompass the animation of form and program, which at the turn of the last century was progressed by deconstructivism and the digital turn. Applicable within aspects of ecology, economy, and culture, transformation has today evolved into a pervasive concept both advanced and abused within the complexity of forces that drive the green transition. To implement visionary prospects for societal change, architecture must contribute with skills and attitudes feasible to mobilize a wide array of tangible solutions for different scales and contexts. The 2025 edition of Lund Architecture Symposium (LAS25) takes transformation as a concept of scrutiny to explore generative positions and action points within the architecture of today and tomorrow.

This open event will take place in School of Architecture at Lund University, A-building, Exhibition Hall, Klas Anshelms väg 16, Lund.

After working in reknown architecture practices in Oslo, London and Berlin, she founded her own award winning firm STUDIO SUSANNE BRORSON on the Baltic Island of Rügen, Germany. The work of her practice is closely connected to her research on climatic and regenerative architecture in the Baltic Sea region. The ‘Eco Village Rügen’ has received the German Design Award 2022 in the category ‘Excellent Architecture, Eco Design’ and BDA Preis 2024, whereas the ‘Experimental House Rügen’ was recognized with the BDA award 2021 and Callwey Award /Best Houses in 2024. Already in 2017, Susanne established the ‘Baltic Vernacular – Experimental Laboratory’ teaching format that she taught at various architecture schools, involving design research and 1:1 experimentation. Susanne has published and lectured internationally, with guest professorships at RISEBA University Riga, HafenCity University Hamburg and University degli studi RomaTRE, Italy. Her contribution ‘Seasonal Wall Dressing’ was part of the exhibition ‘+/-1 – in search of well-tempered architecture’ at the Slovenian Pavilion at the 18th Architecture Biennale in Venice 2023, and at her exhibition ‘seasonal spontaneousness’ was shown at Weissenhof Gallery in Stuttgart in 2024. Benoit Vandenbulcke & Benoît Burquel

AgwA  | Brussels (BE)

AgwA, based in Brussels and established between 2003 and 2006, mainly addresses projects for the public and for collective entities, focusing on adaptive reuse, complex situations, mixed-use developments, and tight budgets. Their designs anticipate a building's long-term evolution, adapting to changes in use and context. While creating remarkable spatial dispositions, AgwA proposes a functional and clear architecture, emphasizing simple construction materials and structure.

AgwA will be represented by Benoit Burquel, who is a partner at AgwA and teaches at ULB Faculty of architecture, and and Benoit Vandenbulcke, founding partner of AgwA and professor at ULiège Faculty of Architecture.
